What do we define as a heavy runner lol? 90kg? Less/more?
as a fat guy over 200lbs, i am very happy with my kayano. i almost bought every generation since from kayano 19th.
Good vid, ty. My personal fake is it’s not about stack and more about foam formula. As a heavier runner with problematic knees, OG Peg Turbo at 27mm/17mm was nirvana.
I’m 247 pound. Haven’t ran legitimately in over 7 years.
I always always disliked it. Until the last two weeks.
My shoe before when I was lighter has been the Brooks Ghost. I’ve bought pair after pair just for general walking.
But I am getting joint pain – bc I am chubby, out of shape, and running.
I think I need a glycerin.
For wide feet there not a lot of choices out there
Should you go up on size when buying running shoes ?
What about trail running shoes?
Not on the list here but the on cloud cloudmonster 2 have been great on my feet for being a 124 kg runner.
The asics FF Blast is amazing
You dont Buy mizuno ?????
Brooks running shoes have 10mm drop while Hoka’s have 4-5mm drop. For heavier runners, which would be a better option, in terms of heel drop? Will a 10mm drop put excessive pressure on the knees? I have tried both and loved running in 10mm drop, however, felt a lot of pain in my knees, so changed it to 5mm. Curious to know what others think about it?
Hi there!! i have a Hoa Carbon X2 and X3….good shoes, my next will be another Hoka, Mach or Clifton. Greetings from Brasilia – Brazil.
As a heavy runner Hoka Bondi 7 is my go to.
Hi sir, I am searching for a shoe for my son 12 years old wide feet size uk 10. I want him to build leg muscles and stamina which would help him for his main sports. Do high cushion shoes are good for leg power/ muscles etc. or low road feeling shoes good for him ? Kindly suggest I am confused and need guidance. He does 2 and 3 miles run daily.
From experience working in shoe stores heavier runners tend to need wider shoes. As for myself as a heavier runner I really like the NB Rebel v4 (2e). Previous versions were a little too soft and I could bottom out. The updated midsole is a good mix of cushion and stability.
For daily wear I go with the Altra Escalante Racer in the warm months and Escalante 4 when it cools off.
Hi guys I’m 240
6”4
29 years old
Done weights/rugby most of my life,
Trying to cut down a bit,
Signed up for a half marathon in 3 months time
I always struggle with my shoes after 10 k,
Can someone recommend the best option as I can’t get all 10😂
this video is super informative and i appreciate the effort that went into it! however, i can’t help but think that while the recommendations are great, they might not necessarily address the needs of all heavier runners. some of us prioritize style or versatility over technical features, so a focus on aesthetics could be worth discussing too. just a thought!
Saucony Kinvara pro are the best for a 85 kg runner
What is heavier? I’m 185 lbs. At 6’4" that’s not heavy for that size but weight is weight right
Hi guys what should I buy as a beginner wide feet
I’m a fat guy and I got into running thanks to my girlfriend. I recently got the Glycerin 21 GTS and I love it. It’s a firmer kind of softness and it doesn’t feel like my foot is digging into the shoe and I land on them.
I dont join events now cause its additional expense, I joined back then just to build the habit. So no need for race day shoes anymore.
My current rotation is the nimbus 26 TR and the Novablast 4 TR. Slightly more weight than the non TRs but more traction and durability.
I have been wearing the HYKES Flex which are barefoot shoes and it’s a game changer once you switch to barefoot. I will not be going back to regular shoes anytime soon.
1:53 Hokas are unfortunately not really durable if you are heavy.
great vid, any opinions on NIKE invincible 3?
Why is there no ON shoes?
Any nike or adidas trash for running. The best running brands are hoka and mizuno
5’10 240 lbs training for half marathon and the ASICS novablasts are comfortable, protective, and have a nice rocker and bounce to them to help me keep up the pace
No Altra torin?
Clifton 9 > Bondi 8
If you want a true ultra light runner Hykes Ultra Sport
Why do shoe testers/advertisers never show us their feet? If they did, we’d be able to see if the shoes actually fit a disfigured foot exclusively (most are designed this way, to push the big toe joint inwards).
Thanks for this video!
My bodyweight varies between 87 – 93 kg, based on activity and diet. I would say going to the shop and trying out shoes is the most important thing for anyone.
My go to shoes are these, which I also recommend for other heavy runners:
Asics Gel Kayano – always a safe choice for heavy runners who need pronation support.
Nike Zoom Fly 3 – used these for way too long, after they were worn out and they have been great high pace intervals and race shoes. Did my ever first half marathon in these at 1:28 (sub 90 min).
Nike Zoom Fly 6 – bought these this year, and they seem just as good as the Zoom Fly 3. Probably a bit more developed fit and comfort in the 6’s.
Adidas Adizero Boston 12 – just got these and they seem like a very good everyday trainer for me as a heavy runner.
Terrain:
La Sportiva Bushido non-grtx – Currently on my 4th pair of these (non-goretex), they are just the overall best terrain running shoe for technical terrain and high pace terrain running. The first version was the best though.
VJ MAXX – The best grip/comfort shoe there is. All other brands that claim good grip, can not even come cose to VJ’s grip.
what do you think of Skyward X for Half Marathon?
I don’t understand the lack of width for heavier people. No person who is built heavier (not just overweight) should be fitting in a regular width shoe. Personally I stuff my feet into W and XW but still pinched in 6E (like Dunhams) feel better and over 8E would be very nice.
Hi mate, could you let me know if carbon plate shoes are banned from marathons?
Would the Saucony Ride 17 be good for a heavy beginnner?
Is nimbus softer than glycerine 21 nd puma forever nitro 2
No ON Cloudmonster ?
I really like your videos. Super helpful and informative. Helped me a lot in understanding the shoes that would be best suited for my needs.
Very good.
What is heavier runner? 160 lbs 250 lbs?
3:27 your assics looks great haha
Define heavier? Im 200lbs, id say im heavier, correct? How are the novablast vs the superblast?
i love teh way you do it noo sponsor no nothing so you can be 100% honest with us i love you for that
Nike zooms are terrible on my feet im 275 lbs and have wide feet so nike in general is usually narrow and uncomfortable
I’m 100kg and my Vaporflys lasted 380km before the foam tore 🥹
The ASICS Nimbus 26, is the most comfortable shoe I had in long time, I love the knitted tongue. I have started using Novoblast 5 and loving it too for daily training with a little push.
First of all, the toe box must be foot shaped. None of these meet even this most basic criterium.
