I remember when I began high school our football coach/ weight training coach had everyone do this pyramid program It was a 9-week program recommended of course as he couldn’t force people to do this program.

you would determine your one-repetition maximum (1RM) for the bench press, squat, and deadlift.

During weight training the program was structured around percentages of our one repetition max.

Weeks 1–2: 65% of max 3 sets of 10 reps
Weeks 3–4: 75% of max 3 sets of 8 reps
Weeks 5–6: 85% of max 3 sets of 6 reps
Weeks 7–8: 95% of max 3 sets of 4 reps
    Week 9: Retested one-repetition max

    The weekly split was
    Monday: Chest and triceps
    Tuesday: Legs and biceps
    Wednesday: Back and shoulders
    Thursday: Chest and triceps
    Friday: Legs and biceps

For each body part, we only did three at most four exercises.

When I started my freshman year, I was 5’7”, 155 pounds
    Bench 150 lbs
    Squat 200 lbs
    Deadlift 185 lbs

End of senior year I was still 5’7” lol but up to 165 pounds
    Bench 275 lbs
    Squat 450 lbs
    Deadlift 365 lbs

Crazy thing was this is how much I improved while only taking two weight-lifting classes(each class was 9 weeks) per year. I was nowhere as consistent lifting throughout the year like I should have been I didn’t even start playing football and wrestling until my junior year which I only did for one season.

It’s called muscle fiber recruitment. It’s why when experiencing adrenaline you can have super strength. We don’t make use of a lot of our muscle fiber most of the time but you can train your body to use more of it at once. Getting bigger muscles WILL make you stronger because you will simply have more muscle available BUT learning to use more of the muscle you already have will also make you stronger.

Okay, I find it hard to believe that Anatoly only squats around 460. I’m an old man now, but in my 30s at a weight of 160, I could pull off a good squat with about 40 pounds more. Looking at the guy, I suspect he has a good, clean one-rep max somewhere in the 500s. His stats include a 320-pound bench, which is quite respectable, though I suspect that this, too, is a modest representation. What is quite apparent is his insane core strength. I was always very respectful of heavy weights (never got injured). His walking around with a plated-out Olympic bar and the one-handed asymmetrical lifts evidence a steel-belted core.

  18. @AA-wg5up on October 18, 2025 at 11:33 am

I didn’t know, but from these vids the fact I can curl 30kg per dumbbell x 10 doesn’t actually seem bad. I look like I have decent but definitely not amazing biceps. I got here by mixing heavy weight / low reps with lighter weight / high reps, gradually moving between them over about 12 sets. So I might do 32kg per dumbbell x 6 at the start and finish with 10kg per dumbbell x 30. By the way I’m 50 years old and I’ve never touched the juice. I don’t look huge, just strong, but the way I’ve been training seems to have really worked for strength. I won’t go into other muscles and I’m just putting this out there in case it helps anyone.

This is not true . Go to sleep . Who is this idiot

  20. @Curlyfilipina37 on October 18, 2025 at 11:34 am

Think of construction workers. They’re lifting, and moving heavy materials nearly every day. That kind of repeated load builds muscular strength and endurance. Over years, their muscles, joints, and nervous system adapt. What looks impossibly heavy to a newcomer becomes manageable through gradual exposure. Unlike gym workouts, their movements are very practical

For size more respps and slower for strength less reps more weight. I worked out my butt in hwps and I got Brazilian cakey by doing duck walks and using 5 lbs weights

  30. @jaxdog13 on October 18, 2025 at 11:46 am

    5-30reps? What is this advice

  31. @NarcPatient9045-c5c on October 18, 2025 at 11:48 am

I’ve just realised I’ve become very protective over Anatoly – with anybody else I don’t mind who pinches videos from who but I’ve decided I’m not gonna watch anything about Anatoly unless it’s his own.

  32. @adriangabrielgramada1016 on October 18, 2025 at 11:49 am

Makes sense 😊 The more & tougher the weight the more the body will get the signal to optimize stabilisation and strength = more muscle fibers not more fluid between the fibers 😊 High reps are fun though once that strength is there to keep the endurance high also. Thx!

  33. @D00M_BUGG_69 on October 18, 2025 at 11:50 am

    5 reps??? how much rest

  34. @xommul79 on October 18, 2025 at 11:53 am

    Form
Is critical as poor form and big weights = increased injury risk.

Body building and sport have dominated the ideology , you do not have to looklike a quarter back to be strong, traditionally in European armies soldiers train for strength and stamina and soldiers food rations were never very,

  49. @Iammrisntperfect1234 on October 18, 2025 at 12:08 pm
