Has, beta-alanine and l-ornithine been banned by the NCAA?

  2. @jordanmurphy7287 on October 5, 2025 at 10:34 am

A couple of important factors for people looking to use Beta-alanine and creatine to improve there performance.

    1. Both require a loading phase. What that means is you effectively have to ensure you are taking the supplement everyday (irrespective of whether your training) to reach the necessary saturation to have any real benefits. Beta-alanine for example requires a loading phase of about 4 weeks, in which you consume about 6grams daily, spread out over 3 or 4 doses per day, before you’ll see an increase in your muscle carnosine concentrations.

    2. Although studies suggest that both certainly can help improve performance, the improvements aren’t going to be huge (certainly for competitive athletes, any improvement is beneficial but perhaps for some average gym goer,s a 2% increase may not be significant enough for them to bother).

A recent Meta-analysis suggests that supplementation with a total ingestion of 179 grams of Beta-alanine resulted in a performance improvement of 2.85% compared with placebo.

  6. @Eric-qh7is on October 5, 2025 at 10:38 am

Basketball?? I find it tough to build new muscle since I’m always playing and it’s a very glycolytic sport so when I’m focusing on lifting and basketball my muscles never keep the pump. I am strong and can rep 225lbs on the bench but I’m not getting bigger. I’m 170lbs and want to get to 180 with out messing up my stomach

  19. @mcm4point2o on October 5, 2025 at 10:48 am

for any endurance athlete my go-to raceday PR formula is
1 scoop Pre-JYM pre workout (or any quality pre workout )
    1 gram l-carnitine
    200mg CoQ10
    1 gram Betaine(TMG)
2 gram Astralagus root powder (this will increase your uptake of the pre workout SUBSTANTIALLY)

these were all the best "active ingredients" i found in the HAMMER Nutrition lineup but they’re a super expensive brand so i just blend my own now

What about dynamine (methylliberine) or DMAE? Caffeine works best, but the problem is, it builds tolerance.

  33. @spider8429 on October 5, 2025 at 11:09 am

You do not need supplements. Eat steak, chicken, turkey, tuna, salmon, eggs, beans, brown rice, quinoa, fruits and vegetables. Coffee and water and lots of different nuts. Eat raw garlic, tumeric, ginger, drink lemon water cinnamon and honey. Eat alot of berries. Also 1tbsp to 2tbsp of olive oil a day. Chia seeds are good for energy too. Guys long time ago did not have supplements and were beasts during Roman and medieval times. Get plenty of rest as well.

  34. @HairyManBeast on October 5, 2025 at 11:10 am

  35. @martynblackburn1977 on October 5, 2025 at 11:10 am

I tried creatine and it bloated me. I drank lots of water but it made no difference. No real difference in power or strength either. Plus, was worried about the amount of sugar needed for the insulin spike.
