Hey! You’re still here! Awesome. Alright, let’s do this. Let`s get right the 8 preworkout side effects starting with…

Side effect 1) Itching and tingling

Also called parathesia, this is a totally harmless side effect of beta alanine, a common ingredient in most preworkouts. There`s really nothing you can do about this one, other than buying a preworkout that doesn`t contain it.

Side effect 2) Flushed red, blotchy and hot burning skin

Many preworkouts powders contain high doses of b vitamins, including niacin, or vitamin b3. High doses of niacin can cause Reddening of the skin, Tingling, burning or itching as well as Skin thatis actually warm to the touch. These symptoms usually disappear after an hour, and most people develop a tolerance to niacin over time.

Side effect 3) headaches

Headaches from preworkouts are most commonly caused by expanding blood vessels in the brain which of course is caused by elevated levels of nitric oxide in body – those increased levels being the reason for ingredients like arginine, citrulline, and agmatine.

Headaches are also a symptom of caffeine withdrawl… so if your headaches are kicking in after you have cycled off your preworkout powder, this is likely the culprit, since preworkouts normally contain a lot of caffeine.

Side effect 4) Nausea

Nausea is a pretty common side effect of these products, and unfortunately, it hard to know for sure what to attribute it to; it can be caused by a single ingredient, or a combination of any of the ingredients in the formula. If your preworkout makes you feel nauseaus, try cutting the serving size in half, and mixing it with more water than directed.

Side effect 5) Having to go, diarhhea

When I owned a supplement store back from 2006-2012, I sold a lot of Gasparis SuperPump. Within a very short time, my clients had nicknamed it super dump. Because within a relatively short time of taking it, they were racing the the toilet. This was likely caused by the high levels of magnesium the product contained.

High levels of Caffeine – which most preworkouts contain – can have the same effect.

Side effect 6) Insomnia

Its not surprising to learn that preworkout powders can cause insomnia. With some products containing well over 300 mg of caffeine per serving, sensitive individuals are likely to find that their ability to sleep soundly – or a all – is impacted by using a preworkout powder or drink.

Side effect 7) Jitters and Anxiety

The high levels of caffeine found in preworkout supplements can cause an number of different side effects and affect different people in different ways. Two common side effects of high levels of caffeine are jitters and anxiety. If your preworkout makes you feel edgy and anxious, try reducing the serving size, or buy a product that contains less caffeine per serving.

Side effect 8) High blood pressure

Yes, the super high levels of caffeine and additional stimulants are the problem once again – they can elevate your blood pressure and as a result, are certainly not the ideal supplement for anyone with high blood pressure or any cardiovascular issues for that matter.

Ok, before I wrap this up, one small point – I’ve seen a few people talk about cramping as a side effect of preworkout powders, as a reslt of the creatine they contain.

In my opinion, this is a very unlikely side effect for two reasons…

#1: There’s no clinical evidence to show that creatine supplementation actually causes cramping, and #2, even if it did, most pre workouts do not contain an ideal dose of creatine anyway – only a fraction of the amount needed to show results.

So you don’t have to worry about this one.

    My tounge swelled and lips became puffy with the tingling, breathing and fainting got really bad. I don’t think it’s good for me with having a murmur.

    I take bucked up prework out I didn’t mind it at all but I’m kinda scared because I felt like I was gonna have a heart attack so I was scared it was like this feeling in my chest that i was feeling so that’s why i felt like i was gonna have a heart attack it just feels like pressure and discomfort in my chest on the right side. I want to keep taking it but idk i feel lile the worst can happen it’s just feel uncomfortable it’s not like the end of the world pain just discomfort i took 2 1/2 or 3 scoops on the back it says take 1 or 2. But I like the pump help advice please??

    iv had my eyes get zig zags followed up with migraine having to lay down . iv stopped all noexplodes went to caffeine only with leg day and a hi carb . now I have had 3 episodes in one week . what can I take? I’m stopping all supplements. I’m trying to compete but now I’m very upset that I can’t take a pump or anytime sup. thanks for any help.

    Yo bro! I love the first two side effects that you mentioned. If I feel Beta alanine tingles, or Niacin hot skin, then I know I’m getting what I paid for. Fortunately for Me the other effects you mentioned, tend to skip over Me.. ✌😎

    At 19 I had crippling chest pain went to er and not heart related and chest pressure followed soon after battled these symptoms 1 year and a half after been referred to a cardiologist he asked me if I drink energy drinks I said yes the 8 ounce redbull he determined after heart test that redbull would not had these effects on my heart then I told him I stopped pre work out shortly prior to these symptoms and since him warning me about long terms health affects to the heart and saying let’s discontinue using these products health went back to normal not going to name the company of my pre workout but it contains 450-500 mg of caffeine per scoop now I work out supplement free and do a lot more cardio so if your pre workout causing you to have chest pain discontinue it entirely immediately and all ways go to the er. I drink 8 ounce redbull now before workout and had heart stress test done and my heart is at peak performance coping well with the test

    Lol ..its one of those supplements that its not for my body it made me jumpy but wierd mood like aggressive my boyfriend was with me at gym he was laughting at my jumpy ass like I was red and felt soooo damn confused it was just too much for me . 😀

    My son take pre-work he doesn’t have of this side effects he cycle off and recovery day, only day he take before workout for three days and 4 day recovery, use to have bad habits drinking energy drink and not get hyper that was in his past

    I took the bamf today for my first time and had a scoop an hour water i had diarrhea and threw up until i couldnt and got a really bad cramp in my gut and it was really hard for me to breath i guess pre workout isnt for everyone

    I just tried a new preworkout (triple power) once I took it my stomach hurts and my skin burns itching and redness .it looks like I got burned ,it hurts when I touch it ((I freaked out))…I used to take pump booster and everything was great

    I’ve reduced my dose to little less than half a scoop, about 130 mgs of caffeine, even so the quality of sleep is reduced I get my full 7 hours, but I experience slight brain fog the next morning, which goes away after breakfast and extra water, I haven’t found much research on pre-workout and brain fog, is that normal? I’m thinking of switching to a cup of coffee before working out instead of using pre workout at all.

    C4 caused me to have double vision up to 6 times a day for about 3 to min each time, migraines every day, dizzy spells, tingling and numb lips, gums and face and these symptoms were even accompanied by a feeling of euphoria sometimes, also aura visual disturbances, all extremely uncomfortable, these are all migraine symptoms. I thought i had a brain tumor until i worked what it was.

    I just started taking a 3/4 scoop of my buddy’s pre workout before a workout probably 2 weeks ago. A scoop is 300 MG of caffeine with his powder. I feel more pumped and focused but not significantly. I’m 22 and have been lifting since I was 14. I don’t use this every time I lift but when I’m feeling low on energy. I can sleep just fine and don’t feel crappy ever, is this okay? I also drink a lot of coffee on the regular
