4 IMPORTANT Natural Hair No’s🙅‍♀️(for protective styles) #naturalhair #protectivestyles #curlyhair

Caption for more details!! My 5 protective style no-no’s ❌

1. ✨Never apply products directly to my scalp✨
Before my appointment, I kindly ask my braider to not use any products on my scalp. ☺️This includes oil, gel, edge control, foam + JAM. These all help to achieve a more “laid” look. But I usually get boho braids so I don’t mind them being a little bit messier.🤣🤗
But these products can also cause tons of build-up on the scalp (… a scalp which won’t be thoroughly cleansed for weeks/ months😭)

2. ✨Never neglect cleansing✨
A healthy + clean scalp is extremely important—even while wearing protective styles. With working out regularly, it’s important for me to shampoo my scalp weekly in order to properly remove dirt, sweat, + dead skin cells. A healthy scalp is the foundation to growing healthy hair!🙌🏾

3. ✨Never keep my braids in more than 6-8 weeks✨
This is a VERY personal preference. 🤣 But this allows my scalp to be THOROUGHLY cleansed. And my natural hair to be properly hydrated/ deep conditioned to keep my curls healthy.🤩
Taking my braids out also allows my scalp + hair to have a break from the added tension + weight of braids.

4. ✨I’d never wet or wash my hair, BEFORE detangling✨
I ALWAYS detangle (with a bit of oil) after removing each braid. This allows me to remove shed hair, breakup any residue at my scalp, + remove tangles. Waiting to detangling your hair in the shower, can lead to ton of matting😩 (and unnecessary breakage and hair loss☹️).

Let me know your tips!!☺️ What do you agree or disagree with?? Let’s chat below! 🤗

[Remember these, all of my personal guidelines that I follow to keep my hair long + healthy. And everyone’s hair is different, so always follow your own hair’s specific needs ☺️]

I love the two curly styles you showed! Are you using different products to get two different curly looks?

Why no product on the scalp? Does it cause build up? I thought it conditioned the scalp.

  6. @beatriceblocks600 on April 14, 2025 at 9:14 pm

    Your hair is gorgeous.

  7. @AliceM.K. on April 14, 2025 at 9:16 pm

If you have 3c hair it’s possible to do that all. Me having 4b hair nope not happening

  8. @BlackMisaka.B on April 14, 2025 at 9:21 pm

Wait what type of hair texture does she have cause I can not brush my hair with out water it will damage

  9. @jocelyngardner5711 on April 14, 2025 at 9:22 pm

It’s because she doesn’t have 4c hair and the direct oil on the scalp would be too much and slip

  10. @missP828 on April 14, 2025 at 9:24 pm

6 -8 weeks is too short for how much it costs to install

  15. @MarsharenaLee01 on April 14, 2025 at 9:27 pm

I have a questions… why would you never have anything applied to your scalp during braiding & why would you never go beyond 6 to 8 weeks wearing your braids. I would love to know the reasoning behind these. Your hair is frigging gorgeous 😍

  16. @4642529 on April 14, 2025 at 9:28 pm

    6-8 weeks? 👀

  20. @ayanafedayeen on April 14, 2025 at 9:36 pm

I always put grease on my scalp. The dryness kills me, and i need oil in my hair before you grip the hell out of my hair. The shedding is less the more moisture i have in my hair while having braids.😊

  21. @nickisimone7835 on April 14, 2025 at 9:36 pm

Ma’am you and your hair 😩😍

a hack that a friend of mine showed me while detangling is to fill a bottle of water with conditioner and then detangle each braid with it, combing from ends up to the roots where product and buildup sits! especially since the both of us tend to keep our styles in for long, it’s a lifesaver!

  25. @prodigykitty3614 on April 14, 2025 at 9:38 pm

Thank you, thank you, thank you for regularly washing your hair. It’s crazy to me that some women won’t do that

  26. @jariqueen on April 14, 2025 at 9:39 pm

Nothing in the scalp?? I could never, my scalp gets so flaky 😭

  27. @Vegirobin on April 14, 2025 at 9:40 pm

    You look like a goddess

  28. @destinimonae on April 14, 2025 at 9:43 pm

#4 is such a goated tip. You prevent so much tangling and matting by detangling first! You have to remember those braids have been in your head for weekssss

  29. @Sophia-kl7ei on April 14, 2025 at 9:43 pm

How do u detangle without water? Just curious 😅

  30. @brightemerald3924 on April 14, 2025 at 9:43 pm

  34. @JWW77 on April 14, 2025 at 9:47 pm

Yes to no chemicals on the scalp while braiding

  35. @myparfait on April 14, 2025 at 9:49 pm

You’re gorgeous, sis! Natural hair goals

  36. @christineharkins1637 on April 14, 2025 at 9:50 pm

I learned #4 the hard way and ended up having to cut mats out my hair almost 10 years ago. 😢😩

  37. @ShannonMichelle7937 on April 14, 2025 at 9:50 pm

    Good tips. You’re radiant 😍

  38. @maroonhorizon1693 on April 14, 2025 at 9:52 pm

  39. @aliyahholloway3907 on April 14, 2025 at 9:53 pm

How do you detangle your hair before washing it?

  40. @artsygal112 on April 14, 2025 at 9:53 pm

Got my natural hair done in braids 2 months ago….and I wish I saw ur video.
Cause #1 is facccccts. I had noidea so much product went on the scalp to braid it! It drove me NUTS. I almost cut out the hair but decided to wash it first. Instantly better.

  41. @miryoa786 on April 14, 2025 at 9:53 pm

I have to detangle my hair wet

  42. @princessbc9791 on April 14, 2025 at 9:55 pm

Well…hell! The braid out was a new hairstyle itself. I would’ve rocked that a few days before washing anyway. Especially is there isn’t gunk on my scalp.

  43. @braywhitjas on April 14, 2025 at 9:55 pm

Yeah the thick jam gallon the scalp scald when braiding freaks me out. My head would probably itch so bad I wouldn’t even be able to finish the install

  44. @Gisellej80 on April 14, 2025 at 9:56 pm

    Yes🎉

  45. @LuxuriousLenay on April 14, 2025 at 9:58 pm

I made the mistake the time before the last time I had knotless braids by washing my hair before detangling it…I had the toughest knots that were so painful and annoying to take out. My mom helped me out. It took much tugging. The last time I had braids, I left them in for a little over two months, I think that’s a good amount of time. Two month mark is enough time to let it grow

  46. @weeaboo_weirdo on April 14, 2025 at 10:00 pm

so right about the detangling. all that she’d hair gets wet, it’s game over

  47. @ednajoseph8254 on April 14, 2025 at 10:01 pm

    ❤❤❤❤❤❤

  48. @sagittariusbeauty on April 14, 2025 at 10:02 pm

Does it ruin the braids when you wash your scalp? I’m scared it will tangle if I do it on boho knotless.

  49. @RebellePuella on April 14, 2025 at 10:02 pm

How often to you do trims? Your hair ends look sooooo healthy!

  50. @sandymakesplans on April 14, 2025 at 10:03 pm

I met a lady who says she doesn’t wash her hair with braids in and instead goes in with barbicide. Idk about that 👀
