There are a lot of different types of weightlifting belts on the market and not every lifting belt is created equal.

Three of the most popular and commonly used lifting belts include velcro belts, prong belts, and lever belts. These weightlifting belts are all built slightly differently to accomplish different goals.

In this lifting belt comparison video, I sit down with Basement Brandon to discuss three popular lifting belt types and when to use each.

As with most things in the gym, there’s a lot of nuance and context that goes into selecting the best lifting belt for your needs.

If you’re newer to lifting and like to do cross-training, then a velcro belt can be a great starting point.

For powerlifters and athletes getting more specific with their strength work, prong and lever belts can be great options.

At the end of the day, before you buy your next or first lifting belt it’s a good idea to spend a little time doing some research to make sure the weightlifting belt in question aligns with your needs.

2:58 I think you guys need to make a huge distinction with that pioneer belt it’s actually called a hybrid belt its core is made of leather. It’s mix of powerlifting style belt and regular weight lifting belt if anything it’s more strongman inspired. I feel that this is bad representation for regular Velcro belts which the core are not leather but other material like foam or cloth. If anything that belt leds itself to being a jack of all trades.

Thank you! 😊 I use a velcro belt when I am lifting really heavy or testing 1RM. I am starting powerlifting training next week and probably will invest in a lever belt. Thank you for your helpful video! 🙏 Much appreciated ❤

I’ve given up on ever being cool and keep two belts on me. Prong 10mm for deads and 13mm lever for squats.

Eddie Hall famously deadlifted 500kg in a velcro belt (his own!). But your point stands that they’re not necessarily for powerlifting! Great video – thanks for the tutorial and info.

I have a Pioneer double prong belt at 10 mm and 4 inches. I went that way, because I was losing my gut when I got it, so I needed more adjustment.

This is a great video and thank you for it. I had a velcro belt. I just recently ordered a lever belt. I will be testing it out and if I like it I will buy a high end one later. Last few years I have been getting into deadlifting and need a better support belt than the Velcro one I have.
