No, you never take the strength out of the hood! You’ll never get it back in and the string actually helps give definition to the hood. What you can do to keep the hood in place, is you can even out the strings and then if you don’t have toggles, once you have positioned the hood where you want it to lie, make a loose knot on both the left and the right strings at the hole openings to secure the positioning of the hood.
